What Is Boudoir Photography?
Boudoir is considered a type of intimate, sensual, suggestive, artistic photography. My style of Boudoir photography is not nude photos. It’s sophisticated, glamorous and in good taste. Boudoir photos also make great gifts from a bride to her groom on their wedding night, anniversaries, birthday’s, Valentine’s Day, maternity, etc. Each person has their unique opinion of what is sensual and gorgeous and I produce photographs that reflect natural beauty.
“I don’t feel comfortable with Nude Photos”
My Boudoir Photography session is NOT nude photos! You don’t have to take all your clothes off to have sensual photographs. A majority of my style of Boudoir Photography is partially clothed or “implied nude,” this is when I set a pose or particular camera angle, so that you appear to be nude but nothing is showing.
“I’m too old! I’m overweight! I’m not pretty enough!”
Every woman is gorgeous and sexy! PLEASE remember not to be so hard on yourself. THINK of how your significant other sees you! They know what you look like and they think you are beautiful, this is for them (and they are going to love it!) You DO NOT need to lose weight, starve yourself, or kill yourself at the gym before getting boudoir photos! There are PLENTY of poses and angles that can hide any insecure spots you may have.
“Who’s your typical boudoir customer?”
Women ages 18 and up. I’ve photographed women of all ages, shapes, sizes, etc! Do not worry about your size or age!
“Can I bring a friend, my husband, boyfriend, child?”
No guys allowed. No husbands, boyfriends, etc. ABSOLUTELY no children. You can however bring a friend as long as she’s female. Limited to only one person, due to the size of the hotel room.
“Do you offer a wardrobe (ie lingerie, corsets, heels, etc)?”
No, at this time I do not offer any lingerie wardrobe. You are responsible for bringing all of your outfits: heels, thigh high stockings, corset, bra and panty sets, accessories, etc. I do offer a men’s white shirt and a blue tie. I also have a strand of pearls and a large red bow.
“What do I wear?”
Wear what you feel sexy in! Bring your man’s favorite shirt! A Boudoir Photography session wardrobe is customized based on the individual. After booking a Boudoir Photography appointment, we will have a consult before the shoot – typically over email. I also send my clients a PDF packet with sample poses, a list of what will be provided, a list of what to bring, suggestions of what to wear and if you are looking to order a few places online that have good prices. Plan out your outfits ahead of time and try them on with separate jewelry to see how they look.
“What about Hair and Make-Up?”
Some of my Boudoir packages and specials offer hair and make-up services and some do not. If you do book a session with hair and make-up please come with a clean face and hair on the day of the shoot. Please also come with photos of what you want your hair and make-up to look like, Pinterest is a good place to find hair and make-up styles! Also bring your own make-up to the shoot. Bare Minerals make-up will be provided, but you need to bring your own as well. Hair and make-up time is booked for 1 hour prior to your shoot, if you have an extensive amount of hair (thick, long or both), hair extensions or any other special hair needs please notify me at the time of booking, additional time will be needed and an additional fee will be charged. If you pick a package without hair and make-up please come with your hair and make-up fully done and ready to start your photo shoot!
“Where are the Boudoir Photos taken?”
My Boudoir photography sessions take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seattle.
“‘I’m SO Nervous! I’ve never done anything like this before!”
DON’T worry! I hear this ALL the time. Everyone gets nervous (and honestly most of my clients are first-timers too)! I think Boudoir photography should be like any other photo shoot, FUN! I try my very hardest to make it the most comfortable environment! We will also have a consultation prior to the shoot I’ll show you posing ideas, I’ll answer any questions and you’ll tell me what features you’d like me to highlight.
“Can you just Photoshop that?”
My rule of thumb on Photoshop is “less is more.” I also call it “flatter-Photoshopping” since I’ll shave a little off the inner thighs or the love handles, “softening” or smoothing out skin (yes, this includes cellulite. Yes, we all have it. No you do not have to worry about it!) this includes any skin imperfections, bruises, etc but I WILL NOT make you look like someone you aren’t. I shoot flattering poses and angles to begin with and do minimal touching up from there. If you’re worried about retouching, mention it in our initial consultation!
“Will my images be used on your website, blog or Facebook? “
Privacy is a major concern for me with this style of image. Which is why I give all my clients the option to opt out of giving me rights to “use” (aka put on my website, Facebook or the internet in general) certain images. What does this mean? After I’ve edited your photos, I will go through and send you an e-mail with the image numbers (and a small thumbnail of the photos) I’d like to have rights to and use, weather it be for my website, advertising, full rights. You can tell me yes to a few images, no to others or no all together and I will respect that. For instance, some people only allow me to use photos where their distinguishing features aren’t being shown, ie usually their face or maybe a tattoo. Others will give me permission to put a select few on my website but not on Facebook. It’s completely up to you and your comfort level! I’m appreciative of any photos you let me use!
“When do I get my photos?”
It depends on how many shoots I’ve done. But generally, I have a 2 week or less editing turn around time, meaning that’s when the disk is sent off (not when you receive it). So depending on how far away from Renton, Wa it could take a few days after I’m done editing. I will notify you when I’m done with your disk and when it’s being sent out.
“How do I prepare for my Boudoir session?”
On the day of the shoot, wear loose fitting clothing. Avoid tight fitting undergarments as they are the most likely to leave elastic pressure lines on your skin. There isn’t a whole lot to do to prepare for the shoot beforehand. No need to get a spray tan, hair color, crazy diet, etc. If you have a specific idea of how you would like to look (pin up perhaps?) then I recommend searching around online for ideas and poses a few weeks beforehand and sending them to me!
